I'm happy to be bringing you the first chatter post of the new decade! :-)

I had to work on New Year’s Eve, and on arriving at work went straight to our break room for some water as it was already ridiculously hot outside. It was 8am when I arrived, and one of my coworkers was there ahead of me, getting a soda from the vending machine. I thought, how could they drink soda this early in the morning? Then I thought back to my final year of high school, when I would buy a coke and fries for breakfast on my way to school.

My morning eating habits have undergone several changes since then. When I moved out of home and was no longer under the watchful eye of my parents at breakfast time, I would eat whatever I felt like. If there was leftover pizza, I would have that. If I had time, I would make pancakes or scrambled eggs, and when I discovered pop tarts, they became a breakfast staple until the novelty wore off.

Breakfast cereal and toast did happen during the week when I was in a hurry, plus the necessary mug of tea.

Even though my breakfast eating habits were often not the healthiest, I made it a rule that I would never skip breakfast. I was always hungry in the morning, and felt pretty crappy by about 9am if I didn't eat something before leaving for work or college. Therefore, I made sure I had plenty of time for at least a bowl of cereal. I still stick by this for the most part, though have the second part of my breakfast, my toast and peanut butter, or sometimes a ham and cheese croissant or muffin at my 10am break.

How important to you is having a proper breakfast? What are your favorite breakfast foods?

Last night, my 22 month old fell out of our very high bed with the bedrails up. He didn't get hurt, just scared. It's been obvious to us for quite some time that he needs his own place to sleep, but it's been a struggle finding the right arrangement.

He usually starts out the night in his own crib but then ends up in our bed sometime during the night. He sleeps better in his own crib, but he doesn't like it. He would prefer to sleep with us, even though it's extremely uncomfortable for him and for us (he tosses and turns and thrashes around). Until about a month ago, he used to nurse 2-3 times a night. I'd managed to get him to hold off until 4 AM, but then he got sick and after that he and I went away for 10 days and I didn't want to keep up the nightweaning while he was in such an unfamiliar environment. Now we're back to the frequent night-nursing again, and my trying to cut him off after 10 minutes results in a meltdown.

When he wakes at night, he's equally comfortable being nursed to sleep, or walked to sleep by his father (unless he's genuinely hungry), but he cannot soothe himself to sleep. If he's in bed with us, I've let him cry himself back to sleep which takes about 30 seconds. When he's by himself, he just keeps screaming and wakes himself up even more.

We have a few issues with his crib as well. One is that it's in another room. I wish it could be in our bedroom, but there is no floorspace to put a crib, a mattress or the floor, or any other type of co-sleeping arrangement.

Also, his crib is quite low (it's an IKEA crib on the lowest setting), so it's not always easy to put him in the crib once he's asleep. His crib is easily convertible to a toddler bed but I'm hesitant to do that because I don't want him waking up in the dark and coming to find us and getting hurt.

I do want to get him STTN in his own bed, but I'm not sure how to do it. I think nightweaning him first and then working on transitioning to the crib sounds easiest, but I'm wondering if p101 has other suggestions?

Watch out, question from a formula feeder here.

How do I know when my daughter is eating enough solid food to stop feeding her formula and switch her to dairy/rice/whatever milk? She's 11.9 months old but isn't a fabulous solids eater. How do I know when she's getting enough solids to quit with the formula?

If you're on Twitter or Facebook, you probably already saw this, but yeah, I pwned Project 365 in 2009! Took a picture every day of the year! Whoo!!!
365/365: I MADE IT

And then I made a video of alllll the pictures. It's kind of awesome.

To see all of the pics in their original photo form, you can check out the flickr set.

So now the big question is: Do I do it again this year?

i'm definitely keeping this recipe:

Sauteed Fish w/Red Onions
2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 teaspoons Minced Garlic
1 1/4 cups sliced red onion
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 teaspooons sugar
4 Tilapia filets
1 tablespoon fresh chopped cilantro

1. Preheat large saute pan on medium high 2-3 minutes. Place oil in pan, then add garlic and onions. Cook 1-2 minutes to soften garlic.

2. Stir in vinegar and sugar. Cook 4-6 minutes or until onions are softened.

3. Check fish for bones and place fish in pan, moving onions to cover fish. REduce heat to medium low and cover. Cook about 15 minutes, without turning, or until 145 degrees F.

4. Chop cilantro. Sprinkle over fish and serve.

I've heard that if you have dreams about fish, you (or someone you know) will end up pregnant. Anyone find this to be true?

I thought it was by a girl named Melissa, but I really haven't a clue. I probably made that up.
Google yields basically NO results.
But it sounds like a song from the eighties (really bad "beats" and the like) and the lyrics that I can remember are, "So I hear you've got another girl. What's her name because I'd like to know."
And.. she says that a LOT. And repeats it in the background a lot (Because I'd like to know, Because I'd like to knowwwwwowowwowoww)

Again.
It's a terrible song.
But it is BUGGING ME.

Thanks! (:

At what point would you be concerned with frequent BH? They aren't painful, maybe a bit uncomfortable, and my stomach gets pretty tight. It gets tight to the point where it looks and feels like I have small balls under my skin sticking out. My hips and back will hurt sometimes with them.
I've been getting them without much of a pattern, maybe every 15 mins.

Should I call and ask? Just wait for them to get painful? Wait until they are closer?

I've been drinking water and walking around. Laying on my side. Ate some breakfast.

I'm currently 39w5d

I am a stay at home mom and a little over 5 weeks pregnant. My energy is starting to slip and wanted to know if you had any tip on being able to handle the lack of energy with a VERY energetic 2 year old. Right now putting her in daycare isn't an option and she is already getting on a really bad schedule (sleeping in late, staying up till like 12, ugh)

TIA <3

On belly buttons:

Ok. This is admittedly a little silly, but, well... I am about 22 weeks along and recently got an update from one of the pregnancy sites that my belly button will probably soon pop out. For some weird reason, I am very freaked out about this - the whole idea of my belly button popping out. So I would just like to know what to expect. Is this going to happen all of a sudden or gradually? Will it go back in after the baby is born? Will an "outie" feel any different to me than an "innie," other that the obvious exterior change?

On bras:

In a fit of pregnancy brain, I bought the wrong size bra and then proceeded to remove and throw out all the tags. The bra is a 40DD and has not been worn. Anyone want it? I'll mail it anywhere in the US, no charge for anything. I'd just like it to go to someone who can use it rather than in the trash.
The bra has a new home.  :)

Happy new year to all!
